Did you know that 4 years can enroll in transitional kindergarten (TK)?

TK is an exciting and valuable opportunity for early learning in a high-quality school program with a curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate. Children in TK are given time to further develop their social and emotional skills and gain readiness to actively engage in academics when they start kindergarten.  Early experiences have profound effects on a child’s long-term learning and development.  Play is a purposeful component of TK for developing self-regulation and promoting language, thinking, and social competence.  TK is a free, full day program, including the opportunity for after school care like other grade levels.  However, parents can still opt to enroll their 4 year old in a preschool program instead.

The state of California has provided a gradual phasing in of eligible birth dates; however, schools may choose to enroll students earlier based on available space.

2023-24:  Child turns 5 between September 2 and April 2
2024-25:  Child turns 5 between September 2 and June 2
2025-26:  Child turns 4 by September 1
